Donald Frank Draeger

Donald Frank Draeger, 99, of Janesville, WI passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Cedar Crest Health Center. He was born in Janesville on September 2, 1915, the son of Helen (Behm) Draeger and Franklin Draeger. Don graduated from Janesville High School. Growing up, he attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He enlisted in the United States Army-Air Corps after the declaration of World War II and was trained as a navigator. A knee injury kept him from active deployment during World War II, leading him to be reassigned to office work in Texas.
He married Lois Schlintz, his wife of nearly 65 years, on November 15, 1947. Don worked for many years as Secretary Treasurer for Janesville Auto Transport Company. For much of his life Don volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, and the Red Cross Blood Mobile. He attended First Lutheran Church throughout much of his life, and often served as an usher. Don also served as a board member on the foundation committee of the church. He was also an active member of the Kiwanis Golden K’s. Don enjoyed gardening, as well as traveling and listening to big band music.
Don is survived by his two children, Louise James of Minneapolis, MN and Bob (Shari) Draeger of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren: Heidi, Hilary, Cody and Kate, his brother-in-law, Ralph Schlintz and cousin, Richard Herman Lichtfus. His wife, Lois Draeger preceded him in death on February 25, 2012.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, 612 N. Randall Avenue, Janesville. Rev. James Melvin will officiate. Private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday at the Church. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church Foundation. The Draeger family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
